Exhibited work: 'The Spaces Between'

As an emerging artist, I am continuously exploring the process of “coming out” with each new piece that I create. I am revealing my identity, my abstract reality to the world and allowing this process to guide me in the continual exploration of who I am, who I can be, and who the world will see me as. It is not required of us to reveal such vulnerable pieces of our soul but the authenticity, the raw emotion that lies within us is what connects us as humans and is the reason why art has the influence that it does in so many people's lives. Creativity likes to hide in the cracks and crevasse of our soul through dreams and abstract thoughts and when I translate that into a physical representation I can reveal a piece of my identity to not only my audience but also to myself. For me, art is the vehicle in which I can create a visual identifier of what the innermost parts of my soul look like. As an artist my responsibility is to continually ask myself, what role do these abstract thoughts have in the exploration of my identity. How can I create the abstract world that lives within my head in hopes of giving a glimpse of that unconscious reality to my viewers? This piece in particular has revealed to me the spaces between. The roles that we acquire or take upon ourselves throughout different phases of our lives. This is how we adapt and survive, but when you take a step back and look at the big picture of who you are, what does that look like? Are you a mirror of the world around you or are you a mirror of your beautifully unique soul? At what stage are you more of what the world wants you to be rather than who you were meant to be? These are questions remind me that as much as I am here to service this beautiful world and the people within it, I am also here to service myself. And I will do so through my commitment to revealing my authentic identity within all my crea- tive endeavors, in hopes that my authenticity will resonate with others and inspire a simi- lar commitment.
